Embley River 1 by Joan Stratton - Looking east down the Embley River in Weipa, Cape York, Queensland, Australia. The water looks so lovely it would be nice to take a swim but you had better not as we have salt water crocodiles in the Cape.
Welcome to my home! This photo forms part of my Weipa & Cape York Collection.
Weipa is a remote town on the Gulf of Carpentaria which is on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, Australia. The Alngith people are the traditional owners of Weipa and the site has significant indigenous cultural history and heritage areas. The name "Weipa" is derived from the Anhathangayth Aboriginal language. It comes from "Waypa" which means "fighting ground".
