Sophia Black And White Goorambat Methodist Church by Joan Stratton - A black and white painted diptych art piece of 1920s architecture of the Methodist Church in the small rural village of Goorambat, Victoria, Australia with an internal view towards the front of the church including the wonderfully painted fresco portrait of the beautiful Sophia and the white dove of the Holy Spirit (wall artist Adnate).
The village name came from the Goorambat pastoral run, and it is thought to be an Aboriginal word meaning nonsense or frivolity, although another authority puts the meaning as hunting ground. The Methodist church is located in the main street of Goorambat and the plaque states "Erected to the glory of God" completed in 1924.
The fresco was painted in 2017 when the Uniting church community in Goorambat were approached to host a mural inside the church itself as part of the Benalla Wall to Wall festival. The mural had to be relevant to the culture and ethos of the ch...

I began my working career in Melbourne, as a trainee in graphic art, technical drawings and drafting for a mining and engineering company.
