Jessica Point by Joan Stratton - A painting as the wet season storm clouds gather, the waves about the point be to pick up as remaining light plays on the tropical scene of Jessica Point, Napranum, Cape York, Queensland, Australia.
Napranum is a small indigenous community located on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, 6km from my home of Weipa, and was settled at Jessica Point in 1932, after the Weipa Mission was relocated from Spring Creek (Twenty Mile) about 30km inland. The Traditional Owners of the Napranum township are the Alngith people but many of the people living in Napranum today are of the Thaynakwith people from further north who came to live in Napranum. The Thaynakwith peoples are from three regions north of Weipa: western Thaynakwith (Pine River), central Thaynakwith of Andoom, Bouchat and Red Beach, as well as the eastern Thyanakwith of the Luenh area.

Welcome to Paintings By Joan - Art & Design By Joan P Stratton. I live in the tropical far north, Cape York, Queensland, Australia. My beautiful home and country is the inspiration for my art. I began my working career in Melbourne, as a trainee in graphic art, technical drawings and drafting for a mining and engineering company. With the diversity of work available to me, I gained vast experience with all manner of mediums prior to the advent of computers. In the mid '80s, as a side-line to my permanent employment, I designed and prepared artwork for record covers (Albums, Eps), promotional ads and flyers for rock bands that marketed their music independently.
