Foggy Martins Barge Winton Wetlands by Joan Stratton - A black and white minimalist art piece of a foggy day looking up at Martins Barge, full of cows waiting to be transported over the Greens Island to graze, located on Boggy Bridge Road just off Lake Mokoan Road at the Winton Wetlands, Victoria, Australia as the light softly kisses the outside of the cage.
The sign by this barge art piece tells one of the many stories of agricultural history within the reserve. Martins Barge was used to transport young cattle over the water to Greens Island to graze. The cattle were fattened and prepared for market before journeyed back to Boggy Bridge Road where they would be unloaded. The Martin family of Bungeet built the barge in the mid 1980s. The barge now rests here at the high-water mark.

I began my working career in Melbourne, as a trainee in graphic art, technical drawings and drafting for a mining and engineering company. With the diversity of work available to me, I gained vast experience with all manner of mediums prior to the advent of computers. In the mid '80s, as a side-line to my permanent employment, I designed and prepared artwork for record covers (Albums, Eps), promotional ads and flyers for rock bands that marketed their music independently.
