Faces Hiding Abstract by Joan Stratton - There in the shadows, we hide, protected by the gloom as we look out into the room and decide how we are going to enter. Do we slip through the door and move quickly to the outer edges of the crowd or do we stand up straight with our head elegantly tilted to the side, smile our winning smile and stroll through the crowd greating all as we pass and make a B-line for the bar? A surreal, abstract piece of two halves of a whole face, both different but the same. Same, same but different.
This piece is part of my Faces series where I am not one thing alone, I am a collection of many wonderful, odd, unusual, unique and familiar things that make up the whole of me.
Starting with one of my charcoal sketches, then digital blending a mixture of digital manipulation and drawing.

Welcome to Paintings By Joan - Art & Design By Joan P Stratton. I live in the tropical far north, Cape York, Queensland, Australia. My beautiful home and country is the inspiration for my art. I began my working career in Melbourne, as a trainee in graphic art, technical drawings and drafting for a mining and engineering company. With the diversity of work available to me, I gained vast experience with all manner of mediums prior to the advent of computers. In the mid '80s, as a side-line to my permanent employment, I designed and prepared artwork for record covers (Albums, Eps), promotional ads and flyers for rock bands that marketed their music independently.
