Delightful Cosmic Ulysses Butterfly by Joan Stratton - A lifelike hand drawn illustration of a Ulysses Butterfly, aka the Blue emperor is large swallowtail butterfly found in Queensland, Australia where it is used as the emblem for Queensland. It is also found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Ulysses butterfly has brown under wing and a brilliant blue and black over wing. Its size varies depending on subspecies, but the wingspan is about 10.5 cm (4.1 in) in Queensland.

These detailed real life illustrations take me may long days to complete. There are a number of works in the series.

I began my working career in Melbourne, as a trainee in graphic art, technical drawings and drafting for a mining and engineering company. With the diversity of work available to me, I gained vast experience with all manner of mediums prior to the advent of computers.
