Abstract Patterned Baby Flatback Turtles One OF Two by Joan Stratton - A patterned abstract artwork of a baby flatback turtle making its way from the nesting sites, over the seashells and sand to the sea for it first and very lengthy swim at Pormpuraaw, Cape York, Queensland, Australia.

This series of flatback turtle hatchlings are very special as my daughter worked with the local Indigenous Rangers in Pormpuraaw to ensure some of the turtle eggs from this clutch made it through to maturity. Their mother had unfortunately laid the clutch on the beach, instead of further up on the rise, which makes the clutch hard to find and out of harms way as on Cape York people drive on the beaches to their fishing spots and the local indigenous people eat turtle eggs (they are considered a delicacy).
