Weipa From The Air Wet Season by Joan Stratton - This is an aerial shot, during the wet season (approx. Oct-Apr) of part of the Rio Tinto Bauxite Mine in Weipa, Cape York, Queensland, Australia. Usually shapes like this indicate that there is a culturally significant site or object, like a scar tree located within the shape and the company mine around it. This photo was taken with my iPhone out the window of the freedom bird from Weipa to Cairns :)

Weipa is a remote town on the Gulf of Carpentaria which is on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, Australia. The Alngith people are the traditional owners of Weipa and the site has significant indigenous cultural history and heritage areas. The name "Weipa" is derived from the Anhathangayth Aboriginal language. It comes from "Waypa" which means "fighting ground".
