VI The Face Of Jesus Is Wiped by Veronica by Joan Stratton - A painted art piece of the sixth of fourteen Stations of The Cross where Veronica steps through the crowd to wipe the face of Jesus which is mounted on a vintage frame, with gold lettering, that floats in the sky filled with clouds and the background includes Psalm 23 of the Psalms of David; The Lord Is My Shepherd.
The original painting, that this work has been inspired by, was painted by an FCJ Nun back in the early 1900s for Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Arundel Street, Benalla, Victoria, Australia which at that time was considered a church of unsurpassed beauty and an architectural gem. The original paintings were threatened with destruction in a devastating fire in 1989. The pressed steel ceiling and many furnishings were destroyed in the fire, however thankfully the magnificent stained glass window, the Stations of the Cross and the pews were all saved.
