Patterns of Weipa Bauxite From The Air by Joan Stratton - The mounds of bauxite make a lovely pattern of orange at the Rio Tinto bauxite mine in Weipa which is a surface mine, where they remove the vegetation, strip the top soil and store it, then mine the bauxite which is directly under for a depth of approx. 2-4 metres.
Original photo was taken with an iPhone, from a plane over the active mining area in Weipa, Queensland, Australia then digitally modified.
