P is for Platypus by Joan Stratton - Hand drawn digital illustration of a Platypus swimming down to the depths of the river for its favourite food the yabby (a type of fresh water shrimp). These detailed drawings take me many long days of drawing to complete :)

This drawing is part of the Grow With Joe Children’s Books – Minnamoolka Series Book 4 Kia’s Animal Alphabet.

The platypus, sometimes referred to as the duck-billed platypus, is a semiaquatic egg-laying mammal, found in eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. It is one of the few species of venomous mammals, as the male platypus has a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom capable of causing severe pain to humans (from Wikipedia).
