Oyster Rocks Sunset Behind The Port Of Weipa by Joan Stratton - Low tide at Hornibrook beach, the receding tide has exposed a wonderfully patterned large bauxite rock with the remnants of oyster shells anchored to the rock on a dry season evening with a smoky orange sky and the bright rays of an unbelievably large sun setting over the tug boats and shiploading wharf at the Port of Weipa, Cape York, Queensland, Australia.

Weipa is a remote mining town on the Gulf of Carpentaria which is on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, Australia. The Alngith people are the traditional owners of Weipa and the site has significant indigenous cultural history and heritage areas. The name "Weipa" is derived from the Anhathangayth Aboriginal language. It comes from "Waypa" which means "fighting ground". Surrounding the town are the vast deposits of bauxite ore which is the base ore smelted into aluminium.
