Memories of Bougainville Island Jaba River by Joan Stratton - A modern abstract view of the swamp area, vegetation, jungle and mountains along the Jaba River, when travelling from Panguna to the rivers outlet at Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville Island, North Solomon Islands. I vividly remember the wonderful times spent on the Island in the 1980s when I was subcontracted to Bougainville Copper Limited.

Bougainville Island, is the easternmost island of Papua New Guinea (PNG), in the Solomon Sea, southwestern Pacific and located near the northern end of the chain of Solomon Islands. The area includes Buka Island and several island groups, to form the autonomous region of Bougainville. Bougainville's Emperor Range, with its highest peaks at Balbi (9,000 feet [2,743 metres]) and Bagana, both are active volcanoes, occupies the northern half of the island, and the Crown Prince Range occupies the southern half. The island's beautiful shores are fringed by wonderful coral reefs. It true is a beautiful place.
