Large Sun Setting Over The Mission River Weipa by Joan Stratton - A wonderful dry season evening as the large sun hangs low, shines its elongated reflection from the horizon to the shore, where the small waves are bringing the tide in for the night. The sky has the last hint of blue, mixed with the setting sunset colours of oranges and yellows and a tropical tree silhouette frames the foreground where the Mission River meets the Gulf of Carpentaria, Weipa, Queensland, Australia.

Weipa is a remote town on the Gulf of Carpentaria which is on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, Australia. The Alngith people are the traditional owners of Weipa and the site has significant indigenous cultural history and heritage areas. The name "Weipa" is derived from the Anhathangayth Aboriginal language. It comes from "Waypa" which means "fighting ground".
