Description
Huka Falls Waikato River New Zealand by Joan Stratton - A view of part of the Huka falls and the wonderful vegetation surrounding both side of the Waikato River, North Island, New Zealand. This photo was taken while visiting my husbands home in good old NZ!
The Waikato River on the North Island of New Zealand is the longest river in NZ.
Where the Waikato River drains from Lake Taupo's north-eastern edge it narrows from approx. 100 metres wide and 4 metres deep to 15 metres wide and 10 metres deep. The progress down hill creates a number of very fast, flowing waterfalls which is referred to as the Huka Falls. The volume of water flowing through often approaches 220,000 litres per second.
Huka means "foam" in Maori.

This is a very interesting capture of the river. The inclusion of the plant in the foreground as well as the curved line of the river give it great depth.
