Gizo Island Views Abstract by Joan Stratton - A modern abstract painting looking across the small stretch of sea from one small island to another in the pacific ocean near the island of Gizo, the capital of the Western Province in the Solomon Islands.

When flying into Gizo you land via a small landing strip on the nearby island of Nusatupe which is to the north east of the town. We visited the delightful little islands throughout the Gizo area in 1989. We were living in Bougainville Island, North Solomon's, PNG. Our island was on strict curfew during the sorry business of the independence war with PNG, we needed to get away for a break and Gizo was our destination.

I began my working career in Melbourne, as a trainee in graphic art, technical drawings and drafting for a mining and engineering company. With the diversity of work available to me, I gained vast experience with all manner of mediums prior to the advent of computers.
