A Village House And Garden in Gizo by Joan Stratton - A painted scene of one of the villages' traditional wooden huts and gardens, including the banana plants and vegetables, on the paradise island of Gizo, the capital of the Western Province in the Solomon Islands.
When flying into Gizo you land via a small landing strip on the nearby island of Nusatupe which is to the north east of the town. We visited the delightful little islands throughout the Gizo area in 1989. We were living in Bougainville Island, North Solomon's, PNG. Our island was on strict curfew during the sorry business of the independence war with PNG, so we holidayed on Gizo.
