A twisted turning sculpture of drift wood by Joan Stratton - Dry season, late afternoon, there's smoke in the distance from a fire near Johnston's Creek, it's low tide which reveals a wondrously twisted piece of driftwood that has the shape and form of a sculpture, it's wedged in the sand because the sea has claimed it as it's own here on Gongbung beach in Weipa, Cape York, Queensland, Australia.

Weipa is a remote town on the Gulf of Carpentaria which is on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, Australia. The Alngith people are the traditional owners of Weipa and the site has significant indigenous cultural history and heritage areas. The name "Weipa" is derived from the Anhathangayth Aboriginal language. It comes from "Waypa" which means "fighting ground".
