1950s Congratulations To The Happy Couple by Joan Stratton - A black and white impressionistic painted late 1950s era contemporary scene of a cool young Melbourne couple, dressed to the nines, with the young man in suit and tie and the young lady in a very fashionable full-skirted dress, with black accessories of a large brimmed hat with a flower, gloves and handbag, for an evening of celebrations.

Part of my 1940s And 1950s Gallery which is inspired by life in the 1940s and 1950s with art pieces that remind me of the old movie star publicity shots or scenes from movies of that period. The old photographs used for this work are approved use, from my parents collection where I have taken the very small photo (approx. 50x50mm or smaller), repaired any damage then created a digital painting from it. It's quite a task to bring these beauties back and transforming them into works of art, it is something special, especially as the series are of my Mum and Dad and their siblings.
